Meta’s own social media platforms Instagram and Facebook are reportedly facing an outage in the United States on Sunday. According to Downdetector, thousands of users have reported issues accessing the services. The Downdetector data shows that more than 17,000 users reported issues with Facebook around 9:12 PM EDT (6:42 AM IST). Moreover, the outage tracker notes that 66 per cent users faced issues with the website, 14 per cent with login and 12 per cent users witnessed problems with the app.
Similarly, over 5,000 users reported outages on Downdetector around 9:26 PM EDT (6:56 AM IST). The outage tracker highlighted that nearly 66 per cent users were struggling with the website, 15 per cent faced issues with the app and 11 per cent of users witnessed disruption with server connection.
Notably the reports involve Facebook and Instagram being down. However, the official service status page of Meta has not disclosed any disruptions, technical problems, or server related issues.
X Flooded With Facebook, Instagram Outage Posts
As thousands of users complained about the reported Meta outage, many turned to X to check whether others were facing the same problem. Posts about the service disruption began appearing on X.
An X user by the handle @LXMoore_ wrote, “FYI. Meta ads manager is down for me and 3x people I have asked. Getting the same error across the board.” Another X account by the handle @chandaulijp wrote, “Looks like facebook is down, alongwith all the meta products #metadown.”
Meta Yet To Explain The Reported Issue
At the time of the reported outage, Meta had not publicly provided an explanation for the cause of the disruption. It was therefore unclear whether the issue was related to Meta’s servers, infrastructure or another technical problem.
The services began showing signs of recovery in some regions as the incident progressed. Notably, the exact cause and duration of the disruption will depend on any further update from Meta.
