What Is Imagine Image 2.0? Elon Musk’s xAI Launches Rival To Meta Muse, OpenAI GPT Image

Elon Musk’s AI startup, xAI, has introduced Imagine Image 2.0, a new AI image-generation model to create and edit images for professional use. The tool is now available as the new Quality Mode on Grok and can be used through Grok’s iOS and Android apps, while API support is expected to arrive later.
The launch puts xAI in direct competition with image-generation tools from major tech giants, including OpenAI’s GPT Image, Meta’s Muse and Google’s Gemini-powered image models.

What Is Imagine Image 2.0?
According to xAI, Imagine Image 2.0 has been developed to create images that can be used for real-world work rather than just artistic experimentation.
In a blog post announcing the launch, xAI said, “We built Image 2.0 around a simple goal: make images you can use in real work.”
The company claims the model can follow detailed instructions closely and generate visuals with improved typography, layouts and sharper text. This is particularly useful for posters, presentations, social media graphics and other design-heavy content where AI models have traditionally struggled with text accuracy.

New Editing Tools
One of the biggest additions in Imagine Image 2.0 is a set of advanced editing features.
xAI says users can edit only specific parts of an image instead of regenerating the entire picture. The new Magic Wand tool allows users to modify selected areas while keeping the rest of the image unchanged.
The model also includes segmentation tools for selecting precise regions, background removal for creating transparent images and multi-reference editing that supports up to five input images in a single generation.

Templates For Common Tasks
xAI is also launching a collection of templates that simplify common image-generation workflows.
These templates cover tasks such as photo editing, professional headshots, product photography, icons and game assets. Instead of building prompts from scratch, users can choose a template and provide the required inputs to generate the final image.

Where Is It Available?
Imagine Image 2.0 is currently available through Grok on iOS, Android and the web. xAI has also confirmed that API access will be introduced in the future, allowing developers to integrate the model into their own applications and workflows.
