Meet The Robot Bride And Groom Who Got Married In Russia’s First-of-Its-Kind Wedding

Science fiction might talk about robots getting married and living together one day. But what if this scene turns into a reality in 2026 only? In a one-of-its-kind event, two humanoid robots stood before guests in Moscow and exchanged vows in what was described as Russia’s first symbolic wedding, as per First News Media (via RIA Novosti).

A Wedding Unlike Any Other
This symbolic ceremony took place at Moscow’s historic Pushkin Library. The two humanoid robots, Robert and Matilda, were introduced as the bride and groom. Robert is designed as an office worker and blogger, while Matilda is portrayed as a ballerina. The pair had been previously showcased at the St. Petersburg International Economic Form (SPIEF) 2026 before appearing together at the wedding ceremony.
The ceremony was reportedly hosted by Maria Pantyukhina, who welcomed guests by calling it a unique moment for humanoid robotics.
Just like any other wedding, the robots made symbolic promises to one another. Robert pledged to remain a dependable partner through every stage of their shared journey, while Matilda promised to inspire him and maintain their connection in every phase of their existence.

Interestingly, a playful twist to the event was added, a robot dog named Dogmatik carried the wedding bracelets to the couple. The robots then exchanged the bracelets before being declared ‘robot spouses’ after what the host described as successful system synchronisation and mutual consent.
No laws were rewritten and no official marriage was registered that day. Yet the ceremony offered something else: a glimpse into how technology is increasingly borrowing the language and traditions of human life to make robotics feel more familiar. Whether people saw it as a clever publicity event, an artistic performance or a preview of tomorrow, one thing was clear, Robert and Matilda’s symbolic wedding has become one of the year’s most unusual AI stories and the latest obsession of the internet.
