WhatsApp rival Telegram has announced a major update, bringing a mix of AI-powered tools and new features. The update brings an AI-powered text editor, expanded poll features, support for Live and Motion Photos, bot management tools and a document scanner for iOS. One of the biggest highlights is the new AI Text Editor, which is built directly into the message bar. Users can now fix grammar, rewrite sentences, or translate text into different languages in just a few taps.
The tool also offers multiple writing styles such as Formal, Short, Zen and even fun tones like Viking or Biblical. This means users can quickly change how their message sounds depending on the situation.
According to the instant messaging platform, the feature runs on open-source AI models and uses its Cocoon Network to ensure privacy. Telegram claims that all requests are processed securely with no access to user data.
The update also brings some big improvements to polls. As per the company, users can now attach media or locations to poll questions and options, add descriptions for better context, and even allow others to suggest answers in active polls.
Other features include visible votes, time limits, shuffled options, and the ability to hide results until voting ends. Another addition is support for Live Photos and Motion Photos. Users can now send moving images that play automatically within the app.
Telegram offers three playback styles — Live, Loop and Bounce.
The platform is also expanding its bot ecosystem. With the latest update, bots can now create and manage other bots, allowing users to build their own AI-powered tools without coding knowledge. This could open the door for more personalised automation within chats.
For iOS users, the social media platform has brought a built-in document scanner that can convert images into PDFs. It automatically crops images, removes backgrounds and allows manual edits.
Lastly, the WhatsApp rival has introduced a security alert for users on unofficial apps, warning others that their chats may not be fully secure.
“Telegram’s official apps are fully open source with verifiable builds and encryption protocols — for maximum trust and transparency. It also provides a platform for independent developers to create third-party versions of the Telegram app. A new security alert appears on the profiles of users of third-party apps — letting others know that messages sent to them may be less secure,” the company said in a blog post.
